    i just wanted to know if this level requires third party software to decrypt the password...or is it already available in the simulation terminal...any help would be appreciated? thanks...

    You need a third part software. And I think the type of hash should be obvious

    ah..i see....i tried to crack with online md5 cracker...but it doesn't crack...nope this is not obvious to me...haven't done the decryption challenges yet...i'm a bit off concerning encryption...can you PM me the kind of encryption?


    EDIT: oh sorry.. nevermind..got it...

    The problem with des (unix) is its essentially one way without the key/password. But I'm looking and reading. I shall figure it out.

    Am I supposed to recreate these files on my own computer, unshadow, then run JtR? I believe I understand the concept of what to do here, but I don't know how to unshadow this passwd file.

    EDIT: This wasn't necessary. All I needed was my friend John.
