As you probably know, we recently received our .com domain back. A while back, the .net domain was also purchased. Back when SO and HvS had merged, the idea of purchased securityoverride.org was thrown out, as we are a "non-profit organization" rather than a commercial business (thus, .org is more fitting than .com is). This was discussed again and we are officially migrating to .org once more.A few things you'll notice:
.com and .net will redirect to .org automatically, effectively boosting SEO again to the new site without duplicate listings on search engines.
The challenges that are domain-specific have been edited to reflect the .org domain.
irc.securityoverride.org does indeed point to the EvilZone irc network.
Another thing to note is that we now own all (major) variations of the SecurityOverride domain name, which in itself is generally good to have for any website. All traffic is redirected appropriately, with the correct server uri, so our SEO will not be harmed (any further).
We Got Our COM BackSo last year some hall monitors decided to register some complaints with our domain registry "Go Daddy" and our hosting company. They complained that our site promoted hacking and illegal activity and Blah Blah Blah. Well Go Daddy being the SOPA supporters they are decided its part of there job to censor the internet and indefinitely suspended our domain for what they call "Breaching our terms of service with them". Our hosting company on the other hand told the hall monitors to go **** off so thumbs up to our hosting company for that one.
After many phone calls and emails to Go Daddy they refused to reinstate our domain name and would only release our domain to another hosting company once we paid a fine for the so called breach of contract.
The SECURITYOVERRIDE.COM domain name and/or website was suspended for violating Section 4 of Go Daddy’s Universal Terms of Service.
The relevant passage of this agreement has been provided below:
Universal Terms of Service:
You will not use this Site or the Services found at this Site in a manner (as determined by Go Daddy in its sole and absolute discretion) that:
Is illegal, or promotes or encourages illegal activity;
So long story short after having to pay a fine to Go Daddy then an extensive uphill battle to get them to release our domain name to another company we finally have our .com back.
Lesson Learned
If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.
